The UK has strategies which set out guidelines and have procedures in place to support and protect the well-being of children and young people in the UK.
This training course is for qualified counsellors, it encompasses the skills and knowledge necessary for working with troubled children and young people. Our course is informed by the BACP Competency Framework for working with children and young people aged 4 - 25 years.
We take the approach that students are willing and able to understand the theory and learn the skills in order to work with troubled children as part of early intervention and the team around the child.
The course covers developmental and attachment theories,
verbal and non-verbal communication of thoughts, ideas
and feelings and the core knowledge and skills required for
emotional literacy: active listening, empathy, and accepting
a non-judgemental approach.
The course is designed to help counsellors work with children
and young people whose social, emotional and behavioural
difficulties are getting in the way of their development.
