Service Description

There are many different experiences that can constitute childhood trauma. From Physical or sexual abuse to a car accident and natural disaster can all take a psychological toll on children. Watching a loved one suffer and being exposed to violent media can cause vicarious trauma. Some children and young people develop post-traumatic stress and will present with anger, anxiety, trust issues, fear and self-destructive behaviours. Traumatic events can affect how a child’s brain develops with lifelong consequences. Studies show that the more adverse childhood experiences a person has, the higher their risk of health and wellness problems later in life. By age 16, more than two-thirds of children report experiencing at least one traumatic event. You will be introduced to age-appropriate interventions and therapy for counselling children and young people through traumatic events and experiences.
